We write blogs to drive traffic to our sites, so that traffic converts into leads. But why is it worth the effort to put video in blogs?
Here are three good reasons to include video in blogs;
Reason 1 – People prefer watching video to reading text.
A 2019 survey by Wordstream, found that if both text and video were available on the same topic, 60% of us will choose the video. So if your blog contains video and the others on that topic don’t, 6 out of 10 people will read your blog and end up on your site. More people on your site means more leads.
Reason 2 – Video improves dwell time which improves the page ranking in Google
When someone asks the specific question in Google that your blog relates to, your blog will hopefully come up in the search results. The big issue here is how high in the search results it appears. Google search algorithms now rank pages higher based on how long people “dwell” on them. Wistia found that people dwell on pages with videos almost three times longer than pages without.
Brian Dean, from Backlinko explains why this makes sense;
“If you spend a long time on a page, you probably like the content on that page. And if enough people feel the same way, Google will uprank that content to make it easier to find.”
Reason 3 – The video will make it a lot easier to market the blog on sites like LinkedIn.
LinkedIn launched native video in 2017 and the clips earn an average of three times the engagement of text posts.
Conclusion – Putting video in your blogs will definitely increase traffic to your website.
The easiest way to do this is to re-purpose some existing video, say from a case study or product demo, to illustrate one of the points in your blog. Or you could simply film yourself briefly explaining the main point of the blog as I have done above.
